Times are always changing. You can bet on that, especially in the workplace.
Keeping an eye on workplace trends is vital so that you can modify your career and job change strategies and welcome opportunities.
The June 30th 2008 edition of the Baltimore Sun published an article describing 10 Workplace Trends of the Future from John Challenger, Chief Executive of Challenger, Gray & Christmas. (The full article is here.)
I highlight five of the most important five trends here to help you stay ahead of the workplace curve:
1. A four-day work week will become the status quo. (Yes!)
2. No more corporate headquarters. No more cubicles. (More workers will be working virtually: the home or the road.)
3. No more business travel. (Think teleconferencing.)
4. Social networking will be the only way to recruit employees and customers. (Forget print ads and online job postings.)
5. Many workers will be free-agents. (Companies will hire the best workers regardless of where they live for specific projects.)
Which trends will affect your career or business and how can you strategically plan for future opportunities?
